Well it’s that time of year… Thanksgiving, Christmas, blizzards, end of year taxes, and spending a lot of time indoors.  Needless to say, with the exception of the holidays, this isn’t my favorite time of year.  The one thing that I am getting excited about though, is the upcoming KMAC season.

So far it is looking like we are going to be busy from the middle of March until September.  In the spring season, we have at least three trips planned to Utah (so far!) where we will be exploring canyons and doing some rock climbing.  These are some of my favorite trips because of the entirely different environment that Southern Utah presents.    There is really no other place like it on earth, none that I know of at least.  In addition to the environment, there is the cultural aspect of the trips where we get the chance to explore the ruins of cultures that lived in these canyons between 800 and 1400 AD.  It’s truly amazing.

In addition to the Utah trips, we are also planning on heading down to shelf road to do some climbing on world renowned limestone.  We all enjoy these trips because the climbing is great, the approaches are short, and the camping / climate is pleasant and relaxed.  The Shelf Road trips are car camping at its best.  After exhausting ourselves climbing we will sit around the campfire and tell stories, some of which are true, all of which are exaggerated.  I usually even tell the same jokes that I’ve been telling every student for years.  Trust me, they’re hilarious.  At least, hilarious to me.

Then it’s summer proper and before we know it we’re approaching the end of August.  We have more climbing days this year and are developing a new climbing site near the Ironclads, outside of Allenspark.  The climbing site is in a beautiful environment and, although the approach isn’t longer than any of our other sites, it gives of the feeling of being in a remote wilderness area.  Also, it’s north facing so it gets plenty of shade on those hot July days.    As much as we all enjoy climbing days, they are nothing compared to working with the students who come out and stay with us for the climbing camps.  Everyone went home happy and hopefully many of the students will return in 08 as we have completely different itineraries for the camps every year.

That’s about all I’ve got right now. I hope you are enjoying the holiday season, and let us know when you’ll be in Estes Park.

Thanks,  Reed Woodford

Greetings,

Welcome to Kent Mountain Adventure Center.  It’s the holiday season.  Once again we reflect and look back upon the kmac season.  And a good one it was.

Our school programs went very well and we’re pleased to be adding more schools to the kmac curriculum roster for 2008.

And the Rock Climbing Camps, to use a student’s comment were awesome!

We’ll be working hard in the coming months preparing, planning, and meeting with folks to be ready to go for our 2008 season.

From all of us here at KMAC we want to wish you a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season.

All our best,

Harry
