Rock climbing: Combining caution, concentration and exhilaration in equal doses. There’s no sport quite like it.
This outdoor rock climbing camp is a must for newcomers, indoor gym climbers and young outdoor climbers alike. We learn the history of climbing, practice knots, and study and re-study safety precautions. Only then do we even touch a rock, learning to set anchors and handle belays. Before long we're climbing on top-rope, getting a feel for our technique.
The Beginner climbing camp provides total immersion in the climbing experience. We will climb at some of the best Colorado crags - in Estes Park, and the Boulder area. There, under the guidance of some of the country's finest rock climbers, we focus exclusively on learning the basic skills every climber must know.
Students don't lead, but can practice leading on top-rope. And by the time the course is over they'll be seconding multi-pitch rock climbs, successfully scaling the very cliffs that looked so intimidating on that first day out.
To provide optimum instruction, this course has a low student-to-leader ratio of 3:1. All gear is supplied, but participants who have their own helmets, harnesses and rock shoes are encouraged to bring them.
Unlike other KMAC courses there's no backpacking on the Beginner Climbing Camp.
Consider combining this course with the Intermediate Climbing Camp for 16 days of pure rock instruction.
